About

Running badly. Drinking better.

I’m Eugene Corrigan. I’m from Achill Island in Mayo, I live in the Limerick area, and I spend my spare time on two things that don’t obviously go together: running and Irish whiskey. Never at the same time. The run comes first, the dram comes later.

Running on Whiskey is where I share the bottles I open, the races I limp through and the people I meet along the way. It’s a personal account, not a shop or a trade magazine, and every bottle you see here is one I’ve actually poured.

Uisce beatha

Irish whiskey is the heart of it. Single pot still, single malts, single casks, distillery exclusives and independent bottlings, from the big names like Redbreast, Green Spot and Teeling to smaller distilleries like Achill Island, Lough Ree, Killowen, Boann and Dunville’s. I’m as interested in a good bottle at a fair price as a rare one, and I’ll say so when the label is doing more work than the liquid.

You’ll also find me at whiskey society tastings and online sessions, working through tasting sets, and occasionally visiting a distillery shop I had no intention of buying anything in.

Running

Half marathons mostly, with a soft spot for the west coast. The Achill Half Marathon is home turf, Dingle is the one that hurts, and I’ll happily travel for a race if there’s a good city or a good distillery at the end of it. Copenhagen made the list for both.

Cigars, homebrew and good company

An occasional cigar with the right dram, a bit of homebrewing, and a pint of plain after a race. None of it taken too seriously, all of it enjoyed properly.

How I work

Honest opinions, no scores for the sake of it, and gifted bottles or invitations are always clearly marked. Whiskey here is for adults, enjoyed responsibly, and never mixed with running.
